Unfortunately, rescue boxes are not refundable or not returnable in full or partially. I accept this as a part of second-hand buying and selling and wash the clothes myself. I’ve received items now and in the past that had odors or hair on them. New clothes with tags can’t be washed either.įrom the contents of this rescue box alone, it’s apparent the items have not been washed. I have several reasons for believing this: 1) an absurd water bill, 2) I’ve received obviously unwashed clothes, and 3) thredUP asks people to send in clean items.Ĭan you imagine their water bill if they washed everything?! They’d add wear to many items or ruin items because washing can do that, particularly if the items are delicate or dry clean only. Like most thrift stores, thredUP does not wash clothes before selling them. The men’s box was sold out when I checked the next day on July 21st.Ģ | Does thredUP wash clothes before selling? When I started writing this post on July 20th, the only option for men’s clothing was 25 lb at $110. The only option for the men’s clothing box was 10 lb at $50. I would check at least daily if I wanted to get one of the most popular boxes. The boxes are restocked at any time of the day. If you want to purchase a rescue box, check the thredUP rescue box page regularly. I’ll be back in a few months to update you on how the box sells. More than likely though, you will make less profit or maybe even lose money on it. You may get lucky and make hundreds of dollars off a box. As with most thredUP rescue boxes, I suggest purchasing them more for the entertainment value than for profit. There’s no guarantee that future boxes will be as good as this one. Seventy dollars isn’t a lot of profit for 10-13 items but not bad for a few hours of work in my free time. I estimate making at least $70 in profit after commission/fees and the cost of goods are removed. I started listing items yesterday and have already sold the Eddie Bauer fleece vest for $25 and the FootJoy shirt for $10. ![]() This is the best thredUP box I’ve received so far, and I think I will make my money back. I would purchase the men’s clothing rescue box again if I received a discount or I had no other way of sourcing men’s items. Is this box worth it & would I buy it again? Even new items with tags can have flaws and often end up in mystery, rescue, and liquidation boxes. ![]() You won’t get a box of perfect clothes whether you purchase from thredUP or another company. Some items had obvious wear, but that’s expected when dealing with second-hand clothing and mystery boxes. There wasn’t anything I disliked about this box. ![]() These types of items tend to sell for more than basic t-shirts and tanks, which I’ve received in past mystery boxes. I received dress shirts, pants, jeans, shorts, sweaters, pullovers, jackets, and a suit. This was a pleasant change from what I’ve received in the past and confirms my feeling that men’s rescue boxes are better than their other boxes. I ended up donating what I could and tossing the rest. Many of them had really low resale value, especially since they were used items. In the past, I’ve received rescue and mystery boxes from thredUP and other companies where the items were from Walmart, JCPenney, and Macy’s in-house brands. I was happy with the brands of all the items because they’re all brands that have the potential to resell for a profit.
